This page describes how the current version of Lasso processes data. Lasso is an Android and iOS app for selected text, translation, and pronunciation.
1. Sign-in and your account
Sign-in uses Firebase Authentication with Google, Apple, or email. We process a user identifier, email address, and available profile details such as a name and avatar. Your Google or Apple password is not provided to Lasso. Email-link sign-in uses a one-time Firebase code; Mailgun delivers the email.
2. Text, images, and voice
Lasso processes the selected text, screenshots, and photos you provide. Screen, camera, and microphone access depends on platform permissions and the feature you choose. Offline recognition and translation run on your device; downloading local models may require internet access. When you use a cloud model, relevant text and images are sent through our backend to the selected provider. Voice sessions also send audio and the selected context.
3. Why we process data
Data is used for sign-in, request processing, sign-in email delivery, abuse prevention, diagnostics, and cloud usage metering. We do not use selected text, images, or voice for personalized advertising.
4. Processing services
Depending on the feature, services include Google Firebase (authentication and technical services), Mailgun (email delivery), OpenAI and OpenRouter with selected model providers (cloud processing), and local Google ML Kit SDKs. External providers process data under their own terms and policies. Data may be processed outside your country.
5. Technical records and analytics
Our data-storage policy excludes translation content from persistent server storage, logs, and backups. This includes source text, translations, screenshots, photos, audio, and session context. Billing and usage accounting must not include this content. The app includes Firebase Analytics in builds where analytics is enabled. Authentication, analytics, email delivery, and abuse-prevention services may process account identifiers and technical metadata; these are distinct from translation content.
6. Storage and deletion
Translation content and context are transient: they may be held in memory only while processing a request or maintaining an active session and must be released when that processing or session ends. We do not persist source text, translations, screenshots, photos, audio, or session context on our servers. Our persistent application-data scope is limited to billing records, user settings, and learning cards intentionally saved by the user when that feature becomes available. User settings and saved learning cards are retained while the account exists and are deleted with the account. Billing records are retained indefinitely, including after account deletion, subject to applicable legal requirements. This does not imply that billing or learning-card features are currently available. To request account deletion, email lasso-app-support@googlegroups.com from the address associated with your account. We complete account deletion and deletion of associated user settings and learning cards within 14 days of receiving the request. We may ask you to verify ownership. You can also request access to or correction of your data through support. Authentication records are managed by Firebase, and support correspondence by the support provider. External processing providers may retain data independently under their own policies; the no-storage policy for our servers does not promise zero retention by those providers. Deletion does not automatically erase independently held provider records.
7. Your choices and security
You can use available local models, leave voice features off, revoke system permissions, and sign out. We use HTTPS for public services and restrict access to server-side keys. No system can guarantee absolute security. Local test infrastructure should not be treated as a production service configuration.
8. This website and support
This website is served by Firebase Hosting and does not add separate advertising or website analytics. Hosting processes normal network information to deliver pages. Videos are served from our site without a third-party video player. Language switching uses ordinary links and does not require cookies. Support messages are handled in a private Google Group, accessible to its support members, not other app users.

We will update this document when processing changes. Send privacy questions and deletion requests to lasso-app-support@googlegroups.com.
